Ilaria Marzoli: stilista per passione

Arrivo puntuale al nostro appuntamento e lei è già lì ad aspettarmi. Immaginavo di trovarmi davanti una fashion victim e invece mi si presenta una piccola Armani uscita dalla passerella: jeans, canotta nera, scarpe basse, capelli raccolti in una coda arruffata e una miriade di bracciali che mi spiega poi essere la sua passione. Un viso pulito, un sorriso timido e uno sguardo sveglio che attira subito la mia attenzione. Ci sediamo davanti ad un caffè freddo shakerato ed inizia a parlarmi dei suoi sogni...

Ilaria Marzoli

Nasce a Firenze nel 1987. Nonna e madre proprietarie di un’azienda produttrice di abbigliamento femminile, cresce tra le stoffe e con il tarlo della moda fin da piccola, e quando acquisisce la consapevolezza che questo è il suo futuro e che vuole diventare la stilista dell’azienda di famiglia, quest’ultima viene chiusa come tantissime piccole e medie aziende che in Italia non ce l’hanno fatta da sole a superare il periodo di crisi. 

Frequenta il Liceo Linguistico Internazionale G. Capponi di Firenze, ma dopo varie prese di posizione alla ricerca della facoltà che le avrebbe assicurato il lavoro, andando contro il volere della mamma che dopo la sua esperienza,  non voleva vederla fare la sua stessa fine, la sua passione ha il sopravvento e si iscrive alla Facoltà di Cultura e Stilismo della Moda a Firenze.  In questo momento sta completando gli studi e la aspetta il periodo di praticantato. Dopo la laurea vuole seguire un corso di Cool Hunter  che le permetta di girare il mondo alla ricerca dei trend.

Che significato ha per te la parola moda?

Sicuramente arte prima di tutto. Non concepisco la moda come quella del momento, la fantasia piuttosto che il colore ecc. A me ad esempio piacciono stilisti come McQueen prima della sua morte oppure stilisti giapponesi come  Junya Watanabe. La passione per la moda è qualcosa che nasce da dentro e non può essere imposto dall’esterno come molte volte accade.

Quindi non sei una fashion victim?

Prima si, ma sai quando sei piccola è normale. Adesso mi vesto come piace a me senza pensare a ciò che dice la gente. Certo a volte non puoi proprio mettere tutto, diciamo che non siamo Londra!!!

Ti piacerebbe fare un’esperienza lavorativa all’estero?

Mi piacerebbe andare a Londra, Parigi,  Barcellona magari per un anno per poter provare e poi chissà!Sarebbe anche bello vivere a Tokio.

Da dove nasce l’amore e la dedizione per la moda?

L'amore nasce dalla famiglia, la dedizione è nata dentro di me.

Qual è la tua fonte di ispirazione?

Per quanto riguarda gli stilisti, mi piace molto Gucci da quando ci lavora Frida Giannini. Poi McQueen, un genio come lui non tornerà mai più. Mi piaceva Gianni Versace ma non apprezzo Donatella . Poi secondo me gli uomini che disegnano per le donne riescono a fare un lavoro migliore rispetto ad una donna che disegna per la donna. Forse perché sono in grado di tirare fuori  lati che una donna non sa neanche di avere.  

Qual è il tuo outfit preferito?

Tacchi sicuramente, sfrutto il momento del platò! Poi mi piace molto Mary Katrantzou che crea abiti molto semplici ma con bellissime stampe, quindi ora come ora ti direi un suo abito, tacchi e un’infinità di bracciali che sono la mia passione! Però se ci incontriamo la prossima settimana magari potrei dirti tutt’altro. Mi piace cambiare.

Scegli tra il diventare una ricchissima stilista snob e sola o una eterna sognatrice che disegna per amore della moda ma senza soldi e piena di affetti.

Cattivissima questa! Se ti dicessi la sognatrice che disegna per l’amore della moda, sarei davvero  un’ipocrita, perchè sto studiando e lavorando per arrivare da qualche parte. Magari però troppo snob no!

Il vestito, esattamente, per te che cosa è?

Il vestito è una carta d’identità, dovrebbe rispecchiare quello che senti e come sei dentro. Una persona deve cercare di far emergere se stesso attraverso gli abiti che indossa. Può essere considerata superficialità da alcuni punti di vista, però secondo me è davvero l'oggetto che potrebbe far capire chi sei agli altri.

A quale personaggio cambieresti il look?

In questo momento a Shakira! Prima di tutto i capelli. Lei è bellissima ma quei vestitini che usa non la valorizzano. Invece mi piace molto Olivia Palermo che ha un bel look giornaliero.

Da poco hai fatto una sfilata, a cosa ti sei ispirata? Chi ha indossato le tue creazioni e dov’è stata realizzata?

Sono partita dal presupposto che nella società di oggi le persone sono molto inquadrate e sottomesse, nel senso che fanno ciò che gli viene detto di fare senza replicare. Quindi ho pensato di creare una collezione in cui gli abiti impediscono i movimenti e siano pieni di catene.

Io stessa ho indossato l’abito che ha sfilato e il tutto si è svolto alla Loggia del Mercato Nuovo a Firenze. Certo ovviamente c’era l’imbarazzo di essere mezza nuda per le strade della mia città con un abito che mi bloccava il movimento di un braccio e anche delle gambe, inoltre c’era freddo ed eravamo all’aperto, però sicuramente questa esperienza non la dimenticherò mai!

I tuoi amici ti chiedono consigli sul loro guardaroba?

Si certo, quando devono uscire mi chiedono cosa mettere o se devono andare a comprare vestiti mi portano con loro!

Qual è il must di stagione?

Per quest’estate vedremo vestiti lunghi (anche se io non li indosserei mai perchè non mi piacciono!) e sandali gioiello. Per quanto riguarda i colori, avremo il turchese, il verde smeraldo, il rosso corallo che con l’abbronzatura risaltano bene.

Cosa non deve mai mancare nell’armadio di una donna?

Tubino nero classico che puoi usare dalla mattina alle 9 fino alla sera quando vai a ballere! jeans, camicia bianca, trench, una borsa media e nera e scarpe con un tacco da 8/9 cm.

Quando sei in difficoltà, chi ti aiuta?

La mamma e la nonna!  Ad esempio per questa sfilata mi hanno aiutata tantissimo, anche perché il vestito che ho proposto era molto difficile da realizzare e quindi sono state la mia salvezza!

Quando hai capito che avresti voluto fare la stilista?

Beh, il mio abbonamento a Vogue risale alla notte dei tempi, però nell’ultimo anno del liceo c’è stata la mia insegnante di scienze che mi diceva sempre che le piaceva tantissimo come mi vestivo e anche lei aveva capito che c’era qualcosa in me!Così con il retaggio che mi portavo dietro dalla mia famiglia e il gusto per la moda che mi ha sempre contraddistinta, ho deciso di seguire questa strada.

Sai cosa ti aspetta quando finirai la scuola?

Una giungla! Ci sarà la legge del più forte. So come funziona ma dire “sono preparata ad affrontarlo” , fin quando non ci sei dentro, è impossibile. Diciamo che ho il coltello tra i denti!

Cosa ti aspetti dal futuro?

Un po’ di soddisfazione. Ora come ora è difficile dire che riuscirò a realizzare i miei sogni, però spero in un po’ di soddisfazione. So che dovrò fare tanta gavetta e che dovrò aspettarmi di essere schiavizzata per i prossimi dieci anni, però si, ci spero.

Cosa stai facendo in questo momento per raggiungere il tuo sogno?

Sto studiando e mi sto preparando per il mio futuro. A breve farò lo stage e spererei di iniziare da li la mia carriera.


Ha ragione Ilaria, fuori sarà una giungla ed è difficile districarsi tra chi vuole emergere come lei e tra chi ha già un posto assicurato grazie ai favori. Però una cosa non si può togliere a nessuno, ed è la speranza di farcela e la passione per ciò in cui si crede. 
Io ci credo in questo e sono qui per dimostrarlo insieme a voi.

Ilaria Marzoli: stylist for passion

I punctually arrived at our date and she was already there waiting for me. I imagined to meet with a fashion victim but, contrary to what I thought, she appeared to me like a little "Armani" came out of a catwalk: jeans, black shirt, low shoes, her hair turned up in a ruffled ponytail and a multitude of bracelets which are her passion, like she herself said to me. A clean face, a shy smile and a smart look which immediately attracted my attention. We took a sit and, with a cold shakered coffee, she started to speak about her dreams...

Ilaria Marzoli

She was born in 1987. Her mother and her grandmother were owners of a women's wear manifacturing industry. Sha grew up among clothes and with the obsession of fashion, but when she became conscious of the fact that this will be her future and that she wanted to become the stylist of her family industry, the industry closed, like most small and medium enterprises in Italy which didn't overcome the crisis period.

She went in "Liceo linguistico Internazionale G. Capponi" in Florence and after different pursuits for a faculty able to guarantee her a job, even if it means to go against her mother's will who, after her experiences, she didn't see her daughter goes the same way as her, her passion prevails and she enrolled in the faculty of Fashion Culture and Stylism in Florence.

In this time, she is finishing her studies and starting with a training period. After the degree, she wants to attend a course of Cool Hunter which gives to her the chance to travel all over the world to go in search of trends.

Q: For you, what is the meaning of fashion?

A: First of all, it means art. I don't conceive of fashion like that in vogue, or fantasy instead of colours, etc. For example, I like stylists like McQueen, before his death, or Japanese stylists like Juniya Watanabe. The passion of style is something born inside and it cannot be imposed by the outside, like frequently happens.

Q: Do you consider youself as a fashion victim?

A: Yes, I do, once. But, you know, when you are young, it's normal. Now I dress as I like, without thinking of what people says. Obviously, you can not put on everything, we are not in the least in London!

Q: Would you like to have a working experience in foreign countries?

A: I would like to go in London, Paris, Barcelona, even though for a year, and then, who knows? it maybe should be great living in Tokio.

Q: Where do love and devotion for style come out?

A: Love comes out of family, devotion is inside of me.

Q: What is the origin of your inspiration?

A: As regards stylists, I love Gucci since Frida Giannini works there. There is also McQueen, a genius like him doesn't come back any more. I liked Gianni Versace but I don't appreciate Donatella. Then, in my opinion, men that design for women do a better job than women that design for women. Maybe because they are able to take out aspects that a woman doesn't even know to have.

Q: What's your favourite outfit?

A: High heels, for sure! I exploit the time of platò! then, I like very much Mary Katrantzou that creates very simple dresses but with beautiful texile printings, so, at present, I should say a dress of her, high heels and a lot of bracelets that are my passion!

But if we meet next week, I should probably say quite the opposite. I love to change.

Q: What do you choose for yourself: a very rich but snobbish and lonely stylist or an eternal dreamer that designs only for love of fashion but with no money and full of affections?

A: What a bad question!

If I say a dreamer that designs only for love of fashion, I'd be a real hyocrite because I'm studying and working for the accomplishment of something good. But no too snobbish, ok?

Q: Exactly, for you, what is clothing?

A: Clothing is an ID card, it should reflect what you feel and how you are inside.People should try to distinguish themselves trough the dresses they wear. This can be considered  a shallowness from some points of view, but I'm of the opinion that it really is the object that shows who you are.

Q: Is there a V.I.P. to whom you would like to change his appearance?

A: In this moment, I'd like to change Shakira's appearance! First of all her hair. She is gorgeous but these little dresses  she wears do not anhance her. On the other hand, I like very much Olivia Palermo that has a great daily appearance.

Q: A short time ago, you made a fashion parade. What was your inspiration? Who wore your creations and where was it realized?

A: I'm started with a conjecture that in today's society people are set and submissive , in a sense that they do what others order them to do, without objection. Therfore, I thought to create a collection in which dresses hampered the movements and were full of chains. I too wore the dress during the parade and it took place in the Loggia of the Mercato Nuovo in Florence. I was definitely embarassed of being half naked through my city with a dress which does not allow the movements of an arm and both legs. Besides, it was cold and we were in the open but I will never forget that experience, for sure!

Q: Do your friends ask for your advice about their wardrobe?

A: Yes, of course they do. When they should go out, they ask me what they have to wear or if they go shopping, I go with them!

Q: What is the seasonal must?

A: In this summer, we will use long dresses (even though I should nebver wear them because I don't like them!) and gem sandals. With regard to colours, we will have torquoise, emerald green, coral red which highlight the tan.

Q: What sort of clothes should never lack in a woman's wradrobe?

A: A classic black sheath dress which you can wear it from 9 o'clock in the morning until the evening and the night when you go tot the disco. Then jeans, white shirt, trench, a medium-sized black handbag and 8-9 cm high heels shoes.

Q: When you are in trouble, who does help you?

A: My mummy and my grandma! For example, they helped me too much for this fashion parade, chiefly because the dress I proposed was too difficult to realize. They were my salvation!

Q: When did you understand thet you wanted to become a stylist?

A: Beh, my subscription to Vogue dates from the mist of times, even if during the last year of the high school, my science teacher always said to me that she loved quite a lot the way I dressed and she understood I had an indefinable something. So, with the legacy of my family and my good taste for style that always characterized me, I decided to follow this way.

Q: Do you know what will happen to you when you'll finish school?

A: A chaos! There will be the law of the jungle. I know how it works but it's impossible to say "I'm prepared to face up to it" till when you aren't in on it. We must say that I'm armed to the teeth.

Q: What do you expect from the future?

A: A little bit of satisfaction. For the time being, it's hard to say I will achieve to realize my dreams, but I hope in a little bit of satisfaction.

I know that I should make many mess-tin and that I'll work like a slave for the next 10 years, but, yes, I hope in it.

Q: What are you doing in this moment to realize your dreams?

A: I'm studying and preparing for the future. In a short while, I'll do a stage and I should hope to start my career from there

You're right, Ilaria, the outside world will be a jungle and it's hard to extricate oneself among who wants to distinguish himself like you and among who already have a guaranteed job thanks to the favour with somebody.

But only one thing no one can touch: that is the hope to make it and the passion on what you believe in .
